Women's Agenda Article 2025

I’m incredibly honoured to have been invited to write for Women's Agenda in celebration of National Volunteer Week, 2025. It means so much to have the heart of our NICU Cheer community recognised in this way.

What began as a simple idea to do something kind just once has grown into something I never could have imagined — a community of over 750 amazing volunteers. About 180 support me directly or help prepare donations, while more than 580 across Australia knit, sew, and crochet handmade items for our care bags.

So far, we’ve supported nearly 6,000 families with gift bags — and reached many more through our social channels, connecting NICU parents worldwide. I’m grateful to have built meaningful connections from Ireland to Ghana, the USA to Brazil, sharing support and hope across continents.

Beyond the practical help, it’s the strong sense of connection and shared purpose that defines us — a community built on generosity, care, and quiet action.

I’m so proud of what we’ve created together with NICU Cheer💚 Happy National Volunteers Week to all volunteers  across all sectors, Australia wide.
