Guest Lecture: Neonatal Nursing Students, 2025
I had so much fun guest speaking for the 1st time in 2025, at La Trobe University Over two days I had the privilege of talking to two cohorts of students: postgraduate NICU nurses and regional Special Care Nursery students at School of Nursing and Midwifery, La Trobe University
On both days I shared our NICU story and gave students insight into the parent experience in the NICU.
I spoke about the incredible power they hold, and how their bedside manner and the way they include parents in their baby’s care can shape a parent’s day, their week, and even their entire memory of the NICU.
I shared a little of Ashton’s story, reflecting on the two negative nurse interactions that I still remember vividly, alongside the countless incredible nurses whose care and compassion guided us through every step, and for whom I will always be deeply grateful.
I want every future NICU nurse to know they hold a very special power to set the bar high, not just for a family’s NICU stay, but for years to come…& I really loved talking to them this week, such a honour.
Thank you Maria for trusting me with your students.
